‘Rogue Thoughts’ Exhibition Launch

King Merino by Chris Roe

Come down to the Ambo Gallery at Station Creative Workspace to see local artist Chis Roe's latest body of work in 'Rogue Thoughts'. Inspired by a pop-art and steampunk/post apocalyptic style, the works in this exhibition can be enjoyed individually or as a group, pieced together to form a large scale collage of colour.

“Since early 2023 I have embarked on a mission to put paint to canvas every day focusing on colour and figures. Working primarily in a 30 x 30cm format, I have created dozens of paintings in the pop art genre that can all be pieced together edge to edge in large-scale collages of colour. Part of my mandate was not to overthink each piece and to generate images that evoke a science-fiction, steampunk and post-apocalyptic vibe.” – Chris Roe

Work in Progress with Scott Howie, Greg Pritchard & Padraig Gere

Join us for a drink after work and be inspired by a behind the scenes look at works in development by local creatives Scott Howie, Greg Pritchard & Padriag Gere.

Scott Howie will be presenting a performance text, titled ‘Promise’. While still in its very early stages, he is exploring whether this work will end up as a naturalistic play or something a little too derivative of Sarah Kane’s 4:48 Psychosis or maybe something somewhere in between.

Padraig Gere will be presenting on his current project, which involves a novel, album and album art as well as an audiobook.

Greg Pritchard will be presenting a brief update on his project, Riding the Scorpions’ Tail, an artistic descent of the 1485 km long Marrambidya Bila (Murrumbidgee). He will explain the inspiration for the project, and how far into it he currently is, and what he is learning.

Work in Progress is a regular event in which artists and creatives are invited to show a piece of unfinished creative work (visual, performative, experimental and more), within a context of supportive critique and collaborative networking.

Tall. small. wall. Wagga Wagga Potters Club winter exhibition at the Ambo Gallery

Tall. small. wall.  is the prompt given to members of the Wagga Wagga Potters Club, exploring ceramic work in small, tall and wall formats. With a somewhat open brief, what limits will the potters push, pinch and throw at their ceramic practice?

The Wagga Wagga Potters Club, in its 55th year, celebrates a diverse membership, with potters that have built their practice working for decades with clay, there are makers with several years under their belt, as well returning potters and newly joined enthusiasts building on the foundations of their journey with the medium.

The collection of works in ‘Tall. small. wall. Wagga Wagga Potters Club winter exhibition at the Ambo Gallery’ looks at conversations within individual makers' work, possibilities of working with clay as a medium and the exchanges between makers linked in a regional clay community.

CLAY WORKSHOP: Carve a Minimalist Style Wall Hung Tile

CLAY WORKSHOP: Carve a Minimalist Style Wall Hung Tile

In this 2hr workshop, potters will guide participants through the process of designing & carving a decorative, rectangular wall hung tile - prompted by the Potters' tile display in the Gallery.

With classic vase forms as a focus theme, choose to freehand draw a design or utilise vase shaped templates to create a minimalist, relief style layout. Using tools provided, add texture and pattern to your forms or some punchy text into your design for some fun. Once your carving is completed you can choose to add a discreet opening, allowing you to display single, thin stemmed flower/s or a small spray of foliage. Afterwards the tiles will be slowly dried, & kiln fired - transforming your clay creation into a ceramic piece, ready to adorn your wall.

The fired works should be ready approx. 6 wks later, for collection from the Wagga Wagga Potters Club on Tarcutta St

Ages 16+ all materials & tools provided
Closed shoes are required.
You may wish to bring an apron.

Exhibition: Hey Google, Show me the Art

Hey Google, Show me the Art is an interactive exhibition by Greg Pritchard. Using Google Smart technology to activate ‘robots’ made from op-shop sourced appliances, it uses a combination of smart switches, smart globes and other smart devices.

All controlled through a Google Nest, there are several units and there is a routine for each unit. You have to clearly say ‘Hey Google’ and then quickly the name of the routine. Then Google activates one of the items, says a phrase relevant to an environmental problem, and then plays a relevant YouTube song.

Work in Progress with Jacquie Tinkler & Georgia Crowden

Join us for a drink after work and be inspired by a behind the scenes look at works in development by local creatives Jacquie Tinkler and Georgia Crowden.

Jacquie Tinkler will be presenting her recent project, ‘a pot a day’ which is a series of 365 clay pinch pots created over the course of a year (one pot created each day).

The result shows just how much the artists approach, technique and treatment of the medium evolved over time, and with consistent repetition.

Georgia Crowden will be discussing some of her current works in progress.

Craftivist Workshop with Jacquie Tinkler and Peita Vincent

Craftivist Workshop with Jacquie Tinkler and Peita Vincent

For too long, Craft has been “feminised” and its value as an artform overlooked. It is time craft in all its many forms and styles is placed front and centre, and its historic role in women’s political activism and social change recognised.

In this workshop, participants will learn about the history of Craftivism (craft + activism) and then join forces to choose an issue that matters to the collective before planning and creating an artwork based on that theme, using a variety of craft materials.

Craftivism takes many shapes – from small and secret to large-scale and in full public view – and is a way for craft makers to creatively engage in issues that matter to them. Come along to let your creativity and revolutionary spirit run wild! Bring your own craft materials if you have them – some materials will be on hand if you don’t.

The C Word: Craft in Response to Gender and Representation

Associated with production and practicality, situated primarily in the home and domestic life, Craft has historically been “feminised” and its value as an artform diminished.

This exhibition, titled “The C Word: Craft in response to gender and representation” invites local female artists who work in craft and design to respond to the marginalisation of craft through new work that seeks to explore craft’s longstanding association with the feminine.
