Announcing 2024 CASP Recipients

Eastern Riverina Arts is pleased to announce the 14 successful recipients of the 2024 Country Arts Support Program.

A total of $17,000 will support the development of ambitious and original creative outputs, projects and collaborations across the Eastern Riverina Arts service region.

Individuals - projects that ‘level up’ an artist’s practice or professional development

Tenzin

Carve it up ($682)

For the purchase of tools to create carved wood pieces on a larger scale.

Virginia Anderson

In Her Own Words ($750)

To access the the diaries, letters, manuscripts and recordings of these women writers will be used to further develop the script for "In Her Own Words" a theatrical performance that seeks to illuminate the works Mary Gilmore, Dorethea MacKellar and Miles Franklin.

Emily Shannon

Cultivate ($750)

‘Cultivate’ is a project designed to promote curiosity and strengthen public knowledge around plant cultivation through accessible and sustainable artmaking. The body of work will made from pigments derived from foraged problematic weeds of the Wagga Wagga LGA, screen printed onto hand made paper created from found human rubbish.

Angela Halkias-Champ

Broaden ceramic material scope, skillset and knowledge ($400)

To attend a targeted online masterclasses facilitated by The Australian Ceramics Association and utilising a digital learning resource from Ceramic Materials Workshop.

Coralie McKenzie

Here, There & The Fair ($750)

To recieve proffessional development through a mentorship by Brian Narelle - a living relative of Marie Narelle from previous project "A Coo-ee to Marie".

Elaine Sullivan

Project + Skills Development ($750)

In Autumn/Spring 2024, Elaine will create etching plates in Albury NSW under the guidance of Silvereye Press, a new printmaking studio established by Kasia Fabijańska on the banks of Murray River.

Freeroam Theatre Inc

Freeroam Theatre Audience Development 2024 ($900)

Freeroam Theatre will run two 2 hour workshops for 3 schools (Indie school, Mater dei and Kooringal) in order to develop audiences and skills in the Wagga Wagga region.

Riverina Youth Musical Theatre

Broadway on the Balcony ($1099)

A 7 person ensemble of young people (15-20 years old) will perform at the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre on the 23rd of April, showcasing the best that musical theatre has to offer.

Riverina Readers Festival

Riverina Readers Festival ($2000)

The Riverina Readers Festival is a one day event that will bring together authors, illustrators, readers and creatives to celebrate reading in all its forms. It will be held in July 2024 at the CSU Playhouse, Wagga Wagga.

Understories

Understories ($1919)

'Understories' is an ambitious collaboration of three regionally based new media artists telling eight (8) stories of local species extinction through new multimedia compositions (Image, Audio and Text). This work is due to be exhibited at Art Gallery of New South Wales, and Wagga Art Gallery 2024.

Cootamundra Creative Arts and Cultural Centre

Inspiring Indigenous Cooee ($2500)

This TACC project employs the services of Sharron mirri Bell, Wiradyuri woman, focusing on cultural Education and wellbeing for everyone. It will provide on subject workshops, performances and early childhood teachings utilizing unique dream-time story telling in the hope we all can walk together with respect, sharing understanding and caring.

Women of the Riverina Project Group

Women of the Riverina ($2000)

Written by the community, this project listens with workshops unveiling heartfelt narratives, probing our rich and dramatic history and painting a vision for a collective future. A powerful live production is brought to life by talented artists in Wagga Wagga and Sydney.

Temora Creative Writers

Temora Creative Writers: Community Literary Arts Initiative ($500)

The project aims to give participants confidence in attempting a wide variety of writing styles in a wide variety of contexts. It further aims to make creative writing more visible and reachable to the community.

Adelong Alive Museum

Affinity Quartet performing "innovators" ($2000)

World renowned Affinity Quartet, recently returned from Europe, will be touring Australia with 3 programs - one program - the "Innovators" program will be brought to Adelong in May 2024 Affinity Quartet is the first Australian string quartet to win major prizes at four recent international string quartet competitions.
