The C Word: Craft in response to gender and representation

Group show opportunity for emerging female artists

Eastern Riverina Arts is seeking to commission new work for an upcoming group show at the Ambo Gallery in March 2024.

Associated with production and practicality, situated primarily in the home and domestic life, Craft has historically been “feminised” and its value as an artform diminished.

This exhibition, titled “The C Word: Craft in response to gender and representation” invites local female artists who work in craft and design to respond to the marginalisation of craft through new work that seeks to explore craft’s longstanding association with the feminine.

Participating in a group show is a great way to collaborate and connect with other artists from across our region. Submit your expression of interest below!

Things to keep in mind:

  • Artworks must utilise traditional craft practices (e.g. embroidery, pottery, ceramics, weaving, sewing, fabric dyeing, soft sculpture and textile art) and not exceed 2m2 in size.

  • This commission is not acquisitive, you will get to keep your work after the exhibition.

  • You will be notified of the outcome of your EOI via email.

  • Commission fees will only be paid to applicants whose EOI is successful. You will not be paid a commission fee to submit an expression of interest.
