Art Commissions: Acoustic Artwork and Large-scale Installation

Eastern Riverina Arts is seeking proposals for two commissions - an acoustic artwork and a large scale installation to be installed at Station Creative Workspace.

Acoustic Artwork for Meeting Room

This work should be visually appealing and actively contribute to improving sound absorption and acoustics within the room.

Theme/prompt: Voice and Collaboration

Objectives:

1. Sound Absorption: The artwork should be designed with materials or techniques that absorb sound effectively. Examples could include felt, rope, foam and cardboard.

2. Aesthetic Appeal: The piece should complement the overall interior design of the meeting room, enhancing its professional and welcoming atmosphere.

3. Size and Scale: The artwork should be appropriately scaled to the room's size. The minimum depth of the work should be 15mm, the maximum depth of the work is not to exceed 20cm.

4. Functionality and Practicality: The piece must balance aesthetics with functionality. Consideration should be given to the durability and maintenance of materials used. This includes potential insect damage to natural fibres like animal skin and wool.

Location: The artwork must be mounted to the North East wall of the meeting room using appropriately rated fixings and not impede the versatility of the room. (see attached image)

Large-Scale Installation for Stairwell

This installation should be visually striking, unique, and appropriate for a shared space used by a diverse community of artists, creatives, and professionals.

Theme/prompt: Interconnection & creative evolution

Objectives:

1. Unique and Memorable: We are looking for a distinctive piece that stands out and contributes to the identity and culture of our creative hub. The work should reflect innovation, creativity, and originality.

2. Site-Specific Design: The installation should be designed specifically to suit the stairwell’s architecture and proportions. It must enhance the spatial experience, with consideration for how people move through the space and interact with the artwork.

3. Shared Space and Accessibility Considerations: As the stairwell is a high-traffic, shared space, the artwork should be non-disruptive to people using the stairs while still being engaging.
