These active and dynamic workshops are designed for artists, facilitators, collaborators, creative leaders and arts workers alike, but are also open to people with no prior experience.

Learn about the ways MCT practices genuinely inclusive and collaborative material making, share your own processes with the group, and carry away these energies with you as you go on to make your own work!
We will cover: Ethos and purpose, structure and accessibility, planning and delivery, and practical methodology

PRACTICE
Embodiment and Play!
Collaborative play, exploration and investigation. Thinking with the heart and body instead of focusing on the cognitive – to find centre, find ground, and find the innate power within, before embarking on making.
We will follow the structure of a typical MCT workshop, which comprises warming up, connection, task based activities, sharing of material made, and warming down.

ABOUT MCT
Milk Crate Theatre has a rich and dynamic 24-year history of artistic programming for, with and by people with lived experience of homelessness, mental health issues and disability. With a deep and genuine Community Arts and Cultural Development ethos, MCT makes profound and important performance works that elevate the voices of underrepresented Australians. Through the integration of multiple artforms, aesthetics, and social justice subject matter, we make work from an instigation point of THEME or ART FORM – we do not ask people to rehash stories of trauma to inform material. Thereby, our work presents narratives that are developed with ownership and agency and reside solidly within an arts focus.

ABOUT MARGOT
Margot Politis is an impassioned artist and leader in the space of inclusive arts best practice, and for nearly 20 years has worked as a performer, director, choreographer, designer, and devisor of interdisciplinary and immersive performance works. She is deeply engaged in redefining the boundaries of performance and what they mean to people with varied lived experiences and neurodiversity. Margot was appointed Artistic Director of Milk Crate Theatre in 2018, and has since designed and directed major productions DUST (2022), MCT: A Retrospective (2022), Tiny Universe (2021) with Natalie Rose (Shopfront Arts Co-op), and Natural Order (2019).
Margot began her career performing with Adelaide’s Restless Dance Theatre in 2004. From 2009-2015 she was Accessibility Director at Shopfront Arts Co-op (Sydney), where founded and directed the Bodylines and Harness Ensembles of young people with disability. Independently Margot has worked across NSW with numerous arts organisations in the accessibility space, and has studied with various companies and artists in the USA and the UK.
