Amy Urquhart is an Artist living and working in Wagga Wagga. Born and raised in Newcastle NSW, Amy has drawn all her life and has had many influences on her art practice over the years. In 2010 she sought a year’s guidance at The Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney, studying classical portraiture and life drawing.
In January of this year Amy moved to Wagga Wagga and it was soon after arriving that she decided to focus on her passion for drawing and more specifically charcoal portraiture. Amy works from her studio using predominantly charcoal and ink on canvas or paper. Whilst having experimented with many mediums, she has always been drawn to charcoal, with its heavy, textured and unforgiving line.
In her work, Amy is driven to draw as a way of investigating emotion and realness. She explores her own curiosity for the face, its landscape and its storytelling. Since moving to Wagga Wagga in 2012 she has spent the year preparing for her first exhibition ‘Solitude’.
Amy’s exhibition ‘Solitude’ will be at The Docker St Gallery, Wagga Wagga from 21 July – 21 August 2012. Opening night with the artist will be from 6-8pm on Saturday 21st July 2012.
